Last
year, school's old kitchen and storeroom were torn down, a digger was
driven in and it seemed something were going to be built. After a
period of time, the shape of four swamps was there and we were so
curious about it that we asked teachers what happened. We were told
that school teachers planned to set up a wetland ecology area, so we
can learn more in the field of biology and ecology from the wetlands.
We have learned that
in the history of the earth, it had been through the extinction which
caused some animals like, dinosaurs and forams, exterminated. Only
fossils left. Compare with that time, we human beings nowadays may
live in the time facing the same crisis: extinction. The difference is
that 65 million years ago it was caused by comet which hit the earth,
but today it is human beings. Our teachers said, "We poor human beings
are sweeping the forests, living places of creatures and plants, and
many species. In the same time, we produce various pollutions which
will lead us to be destroyed." How terrible!
We think everyone in
this world has the responsibility to do ecological
 production.
We have been living in a very convenient world, and all the
convenience including everyday supplies are taken from Nature. As we
change the environment to survive, we do not think about that we are
destroying the important ecosystem which protect and keep human
survive. Also we need to concern our living environment and continue
ecological substantive management. The first step is to realize the
difficulties and ecological problems. For many years, people in Taiwan
pursuit the economic growth and development, however, that also
produced lots of pollutions. The other problem is over crowded
population on this small island, especially in the cities. People
overuse and overdevelop our environment and land, that causes serious
damage to our land. Convenient trading in this earth village,
incorrect way of buying animals to stop slaughter, and bring in
animals from outside, all these result our environment being damaged.
Ecocatastrophe has become a big issue that we should deal with.
Because of all these reasons, This "wetland
ecological area" is built. We reuse the water from rain and kitchen
cooking leftover water, and take advantage of a kind of lotus to deal
with the water. In curriculum, lessons about ecology are adopted into
school's course, and share the result with neighborhood schools and
people in the community. In summer and winter vacations, we had camps
about wetlands for students and people from the community. We have set
it on the Internet and continue to make it substantive worked.
In front of
Nature, we should be humble and concern about the environment. In the
science field at school, there are 31 themes about wetland , we must
learn a lot about it. That's why we have these "four wetlands" at
school.
