[ Lotus or Water lily ? ] by Chi-lin
 We
wrote a report about the differences between lotuses and water lilies,
as follows.
The
leaves of water lilies are right on the surface of water, however, the
stalk of lotus leaves stand straightly above the water. To tell their
difference by leaves is a simple method. However, when water lilies
are too crowded, they still look like "standing" as being pushed by
other lilies. There are still other characters to tell them.
1. Water
lilies have a breach on the edge of its leaves. Lotuses don't have any
breach and
wavy.
2. No matter
what kinds of lotus, there must be a structure called
Seedpod of the Lotus
which
is surrounded by layers of petals. Water lilies don't have any
Seedpod of the Lotus.
When a
lotus starts to fade, the petals fall down one by one while
Seedpod of the Lotus
is still
growing. Water lily has an interesting fading way, which makes whole flower sink into the
pond and fruit inside.
3. As for the colors, we can just find only pink and white lotuses no
matter how good the
gardening tech is. However, there are lots of colors such as
yellow, purple, pink, white, blue
and etc.

As for the function, the food we have is from lotus such as seeds and
rhizomes. The colors
of water lilies are different as well as the fragrance.
Allegedly, the best aromatic type of
Fragrant water lily is yellow type. It can be made tea.
