Besides human, all kinds
of animals, plants and even minute organisms help purify
wastewater. However, the amount of wastewater has enormously
been increased recently,
due to rapid growth of high-tech industries. Such an imbalance has
resulted in seriousenvironmental pollution.
To purify wastewater, organics exhaust
oxygen, which is essential to aquatic animals and cause their
death.
According to Mr. Cheng, the latest method
is to turn pollutants into energy essential to plant growth
during wastewater purification done by certain kinds of plants
or organisms.
In one pond, we put in wastewater that’s
used to wash things in school kitchen. It stays there for a
couple of days to be purified before being used to water lawns
on the campus. We’re still testing the ability of
water hyacinth
of wastewater purification.
Thanks to Mr. Chia-wu Cheng, who has a
master’s degree of environmental engineering, for his great
knowledge about treatment of environmental pollutants. |
